 Dear Elementary parents,

This letter is to inform you that swimming classes will start on the week of August 16 for students in grades 2-5 and on the week of August 23 for K4-1st grades students. Our first semester physical education curriculum includes both PE and swimming classes.

Swimming: K4 through Gr. 5 students participate in swimming classes. Students who don’t know how to

swim will be taught the basics, while students who already know how to, will practice the breaststroke and

crawl styles. In addition to regular swimming, third, fourth and fifth grade students will also have water

polo classes. Swimming classes are taught by specialists. K4-1st grade students can be helped by their parents while in the locker rooms before and/or after swimming classes.

Special Medical Conditions: If for medical reasons your child is unable to participate in PE and/or

swimming activities please inform the Elementary Office of this or contact us at sports@ans.edu.ni  or at 2278-0029 ext. 17.

Swim attire: Both girls and boys are required to wear appropriate swimming attire. Girls must use swim caps as part of their swimming attire. The use of goggles is recommended. Caps and goggles can be purchased at ANS’s cashiers.

Special recommendations: For swimming classes please provide your child with a bag containing the

following items: sunscreen, a towel and a pair of rubber flip flop sandals.

Important reminders:

Ø  No valuables, e.g. watches, chains, phones, etc. are permitted in the PE or swimming pool areas.

Ø  If your child comes to school without her/his swim suit (or PE uniform) or has no justifiable reason
for not participating in PE/swimming, she/he will be deducted points in the quarter grade.

Ø  If your child loses something during swimming, first ask the classroom teacher or check in the Lost Found basket located at the swimming pool.

Schedule: Please keep the swim /PE schedule provided bellow for easy reference.

Sincerely,

Oswaldo Ortiz F.

Athletic Director
